I was looking at https://www.tng-project.org/api/TNG50-1/snapshots/99/subhalos/555601/ for complete information related to a subhalo 555601 and saw that "mass": 53.76. I understand this is the total mass of the galaxy, but could you please help me with the units?

All the fields in the API are the same fields (with the same units) as in the group catalogs. The prefix "Subhalo" is omitted in the API, so you should look at "SubhaloMass" in the documentation.
